Hey there!

Thank you so much. I too have ligament tear and I know how annoying it is to no be able to run/jog. Jogging is the ultimate cardio as it burns a lot of calories, but there’s always a chance that you can jerk your knee.

So the sad thing about ligaments is that they never heal 😦 The only thing you can do is strengthen the muscles around them so that you don’t jerk your knee, but you will ALWAYS have to take certain precautions so you don’t injure your ligament. I jerked mine last year in the middle of dancing because it was too strenuous on the knee, so you should be extremely careful about the pressure on your knees.

What you can do for cardio instead of jogging and running is use the elliptical in the gym as it burns a lot of calories. Apart from that, brisk walking on the treadmill with incline helps. You can even cycle, normally or in intervals (fast cycling 1 minute+moderate cycling 30 seconds- repeat).

I also suggest you to do leg extension to strengthen your muscle, avoid lunges if it hurts your knee and squats with support if needed. Basically just stop exercising when your knee pains while working out, its not worth getting injured and being on bed rest a month!

Review : Insanity Max 30


My last post was about home workouts where I mentioned about Insanity Max 30 which is Beachbody workout. It’s the first home workout I have completed and currently I am on its parent workout called Insanity (The review will be up as soon as I complete it).

What drew me to Insanity Max 30?

  • I wanted to try a home workout
  • Wanted to try something different than gym
  • Wanted something more hardcore
  • I was entering final year of college, and wanted something which takes less time

What is Insanity Max 30?

 It’s a 30 minutes long intensive workout program created by Shaun T which is 60 days long with a 6 days/week exercise routine. It is max interval training to an entirely different level, making it challenging for you every single day. You need to push yourself harder everyday to complete these 30 minutes, and by the time you get comfortable the workout schedule changes (different pattern every 2 weeks). It doesn’t need any equipment at all.

My experience with Insanity Max 30

My main reason was to fight my weight-loss plateau, as my body had been in the same shape for a couple of months with no change at all. I tried changing my workout at the gym and tried different things, but nothing was working out.

Working out at the gym for 2 years, I considered myself fairly fit- until the first day of Max 30. I passed out within first 5 minutes! It was so hard, the first day was unbelievably tiring. Every single day was something new and pushed me hard and harder.

I won’t lie but I was also really doubtful about it. Will just 30 minutes of exercise a day help me at all? I am not doing the conventional exercises specific to body parts, so will I lose my muscle? I was extremely hesitant but nevertheless, thought I would give it a try for at least a month.



My body has never been this defined, EVER! My arms look extremely toned, my quads are out, my core is strengthened, my hips are more muscular- so  my entire body has changed drastically. I also lost like 2 inches on my tummy in just 28 days! So not only have I lost fat but also gained a lot of lean muscle 🙂

Moreover, I have built my endurance more than ever. Every single day with sweat dripping to the floor- you feel like it’s the end and you cannot do it anymore, but you push yourself and the feeling you get after that is inexplicable! More than making me lose fat and making my body more defined, it has taught me to test my limits. I can vouch that this workout will do wonders, only if you commit to it and commit to pushing yourself a little more every single day.

If you are extremely overweight, I am sure you’ll drop a few kilos really fast and efficiently. If you are already fit and are trying for something new and challenging, this workout will not disappoint you.

Why I prefer home workouts to the classic gym


As I type this, I have gone to the gym for two and a half years (consistently, and a few months here and there otherwise) and there is no doubt that it is gymming which made me lose all those 20+ kgs. However, around three months back I shifted to working out at home (a review on the workout I did is next up) and I shall never return to the gym again. Why?

1.The lazy (and busy) person’s best friend

If you are as lazy as me, nothing beats it when you just have to walk a few steps to start working out! There’s no excuse of ‘who’ll go so far’ because your gym is your living room or your own bedroom.

2. Most comfortable attire

I usually worked out in my boxers and a night suit t-shirt. No more matching clothes and fussing over what to wear, just wear shoes straight out of bed and you’re set.

3. More productivity

You are actually working out ALL the time. No waiting for machines, finding dumbbells, looking for a spot or a bench, waiting after reps. You’re on your tips through out and working out and not wasting any time.

4. Less time

Most of us are super busy with college or jobs and it is fantastic if you are one of those few who are actually making an effort to exercise, home workouts save a lot of time since there’s no transit to the gym and the workouts are also 30-60 minutes roughly. This saves the 1.5-2 hours you usually spend at gym and then travel back and forth. Moreover, you can even workout while travelling with no additional costs involved!

5. Variety

From yoga to HIIT to weights, you can do anything you want under one roof at your own speed. Group classes can sometimes be competitive and exclusive classes here and there in different centres can be expensive, so you do a workout of your choice in your own comfort zone. Like I could finally do HIIT properly unlike being the only one doing it in the hall in the gym. You can check out the programs by Beachbody (one of the leading companies) here. I have completed Insanity Max 30 and have completed a week of Insanity.

6. Break the monotony

No more monotonous routines of ‘a few minutes of cardio followed by weights and then stretching’. If you are doing a home workout program online, it is usually 60-90 days. Apart from that even if you are doing workouts from YouTube, every workout is very different and you get to do something new everyday instead of just lifting weights.

7. Strengthening on your own body weight

Of course just because you have to burn that fat doesn’t mean you have to do only cardio (check weight loss myths), and I thought how would I manage building lean muscle without actually lifting weights. Surprisingly, home workouts gave me better defined muscles than conventional weight lifting! That’s because you are building muscles by resisting against your own body weight (plank jacks, push-up jacks, downward dogs, spider lunges, etc all in a speedy manner without compromising form). Its harder to work on your own body weight and that’s what makes it extremely challenging, and gives great results too.

Note : The above is for lean muscle and fat loss, if you are looking to become bulky you would need to lift weights.


So what I would personally suggest is to do home workouts if you just cannot manage to take out time for gym, or join the gym, lose a little fat, and define your body more with these workouts.

Eating local

I have never understood people’s idea of becoming slim and healthy by popping in a salad. When you want to lose weight, you start eating salads because low cal and more fiber. Even when you genuinely like salad and order it, the first question you are asked is ‘Are you on a diet?’ Why are we so afraid of calories? Isn’t roti and sabzi healthy? Isn’t that what you’ve been brought up with? In this article we will talk about the importance of eating food we are brought up with and not what we read online!

I was in a boarding school (in North of India) for 5 years where every alternate Sunday we got idli & sambar, and those were the Sundays when I skipped breakfast, that’s how much I despised it. Two weeks into Bangalore (which is in the South) and I absolutely love idli! So much that was craving for it this summer when I was in Delhi. Why is it so?

Whenever my friends ask me to ‘give them a diet’, the only thing I do is add and subtract a few things. Why make something which will make them struggle for a month and hate their idea of ‘fitness’ and ‘weight-loss’ when you can add things that they actually like and make them love the healthy lifestyle? What is the point of eating something you are not used to for a month- that’s torturous! Also, they’ll gain it back anyway! I cannot tell someone from Delhi to eat uttapams everyday because they are light, or idlis because of its impeccable fibre, but what I can tell is to add curd and white butter and subtract oil from their paranthas. That’s how my idea of a diet works. The other day a friend told me about a diet plan he was following which was by an American and consisted of food like blueberries and other exotic things which are unavailable in India. Now tell me, how beneficial will that be for you? One needs to eat what they are accustomed to. Of course if you are in a different country, eating their local food is healthier than fetching for your food as that wont be as fresh and nutritious.

Most of you are afraid of stepping in a healthy lifestyle without even trying it, that’s because it is portrayed as ‘stop eating everything you like and start eating salads’ and that’s not true at all. In fact, it is all about eating what you like, eating the home food you have been brought up with because that is the best for your mind and body! So eat your aloo ka paranthas for breakfast and modify it so it isn’t extremely oily and not made in maida, and you have already started your journey to become better than what you were yesterday 🙂
