Tips to help you look thinner this winter!

Winters means wearing layers and layers of clothing which sometimes make us look fatter than we already are! So how do we avoid looking that plumpy and in fact appear thinner instead? My first fashion related post collaborated with my friend who is a designer and a stylist, Ishita Tarun Sadana (click here to reach out to her for beautiful customised outfits).

Stripes– Stripes can be very very tricky, but if you wear them right, it makes all the difference. If you have a broad upper body you must avoid horizontal stripes. In fact to lengthen your legs, vertical striped jeans or lowers can really help you.

Stick with one hue– Wearing the same colour top and bottom really makes you look thinner and taller and immediately draws all the attention to your middle line than your upper and lower body.

Pointed heels– Skinny heels with pointed toes does wonders and extends your calf length immediately. A chunky bulky heel will always make your calves look fatter.

Show some skin up top– Being fat does not mean you need to dress conservatively, with such trendy off shoulder tops and V necks in fashion, just a little skin show on the top will make you look trendy. You would look more elegant and draw attention from your lower and middle body.

Bell Bottoms– The trend is emerging and growing with time, a dark navy, black or wine coloured bell bottom will have a major slimming affect on the pelvis and abdomen and make the legs look longer and therefore slimmer.

Fabric decision– Make sure you chose your fabrics wisely. Anything embellished crushed and sequin will add pounds to your body while leather, denim. corduroy and jersey will contour the curves.

Accessorise– Long necklaces are your solution to having a bulky upper body. Long necklaces take away attention from the fat while giving a longer torso feel to your body.

Hair– Experiment with those curls of yours. Be your own Beyonce. After all, bigger hair gives you an illusion of a smaller, narrower face.

High Waist line– Wear accessories like belts, high waist pants and dresses with a high bodice to accentuate the was it line.

Last minute tips to be in your best shape and glow for Christmas and New Years!

Christmas is 4 days away and New Years is 10 days away. Now is the time when all of us have a lot of gatherings and parties to attend. A lot of us also made a resolution to get fit and maybe failed at it, nevertheless, its never too late!

Below are a few tips and tricks to be in your best shape and glow for Christmas and New Years:

Its too cold which is why we don’t feel ‘thirsty’ per se, and don’t keep ourselves very hydrated. Water is very very important for your skin and even weight loss (Read my article here to know why). So don’t forget to always keep a bottle next to you and keep sipping it. And since it’s cold, you can even infuse different kinds of tea and keep sipping it.

2. Nuts

Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, etc all keep you warm. Nuts are very nutritious to munch on, they are high in protein and healthy fats. So instead on having hot pakoras ( vegetables dipped in gram flour and deep fired) and gajar ka halwa  (Indian sweet dish made of carrot) when you want to eat a little snack, you might as well munch on these !

3. Moisturise

Please moisturise every single time after you bathe and maybe again, and specially your feet before you sleep. This is the time your skin will get very very dry and you totally need to use some good body butters and oils. Even body wash which is oil based is great!

4. Exercise

Yes I know being in your quilt with a mug of coffee is the best feeling ever, but push yourself to do basic exercises like crunches , squats, etc (if not more)  everyday. Last minute exercises can end up toning you so you can fit into your favorite sweater  without a muffin top popping out.

5. Eating clean

Cold salads taste too cold and hot fried snacks taste too good. Cliché, and this may be your laziest time but you don’t want to get shocked when you remove your layers of warm clothes and see piled up fat, right? Eat yummy soup, barbecue and grilled snacks, oats, etc. Even hot chocolate once in a while is okay 🙂 Because in the end, the journey f fitness is supposed to be enjoyable right?

It’s been a while since I answered any questions, hence as promised in my previous post I will answer a few today. Sorry for being this lazy 😛 I will be answering a few questions which require extremely short responses.

Hi, I am 23 year old girl. My height is 5’1 and I weigh around 70 kg. Well, for certain reasons I cannot join a gym. I want to loose at least 10 kg weight. Please suggest any diet(vegetarian)/exercise/yoga tips which can be done at home. Till now I lacked perseverance. But I have started realizing how my being overweight is affecting my confidence and ability to socialize
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanx!

Hi Meghna,

You can do yoga and other exercises at home easily through YouTube videos. Focus on eating clean i.e. discontinue junk and fried. I’m sure my previous articles will help you with it.

I too have pcod and nearly overweight. I’v been doing aerobics and still see no change.. It takes a long time to reduce but gaining weight seems to be very quick.. Almost helpless.. I have seen the difference in you..amazing! 🙂
Could you suggest what kind of exercises or workout and diet I must be doing in precise?

Hi Nivedita,

Doing aerobics is perfectly fine because aerobics classes also have strength building classes a couple of times a week and not just cardio. You have to give it time for your body to burn fat. It’s always easier to gain and takes double the time to lose, so make sure you eat clean.

Hello ma’am.
I m suffering from pcod from last 6 years and the excess weight is hindering its treatment.
I have gained alot due to pcod.
Please suggest me with a proper diet plan and exercise routine .
I stay in hostel so joining gym is not possible though i will be joining gym for a short duration from june 10 to july 20 (summer break).
Age: 20 years
Height : 5″
Weight : 70 kg

Hi Niharika,

You need to see a doctor regarding your PCOD. Hormones lead to weight gain and you have to see your doctor about how to overcome it since this may be the sole problem of your weight gain.

The flaws of Fitness Addiction

Apart from me, there are a lot of fitness addicts I know who are extremely enthusiastic people. Most of them are very positive to be around and have this passion for a healthy living which makes them fantastic and makes me feel so good to be around them! I know how rosy this picture sounds, but yes, there are a lot of flaws of being a fitness fanatic.

We are ‘addicted’ to being fitness. In my perspective, no addiction is ever good. There must be moderation in everything. Most of us were either too skinny or too fat and put a fitness goal for ourselves and attained it. However, a little deviation from this goal makes dejected. Yes, 5 kilos do feel like the end of the world. We preach about it being ‘okay’, but it really isn’t when it happens to us. Why? Because we don’t want to get back to what we were.

This is a small experience all of us face once in a while, of course it gets repressed because a positive mindset > everything. But why bring in this feeling at the first place? I am writing this right now because this is the exact same thing I have been feeling since a couple of days (ever since I saw the scale) and I can use this blog in whatever way I want, after all its my space to express. I don’t feel anyone should go through this, by the end of the day, its your body! You have to love it unconditionally for all it has gone through and all good things it does to you. And it’s beautiful, but before that, you gotta feel beautiful! A stressed and upset mind will never bring out the best physical results.

Another flaw, choosing gym over everything. Tbh, its GREAT that you prioritise working out (you must!) and being fit and everything, but its not EVERYTHING. You have exams? Discontinue working out if you cannot find enough time. Don’t make working out the ulterior motive when studying is more important that time. You’re unwell? You’re travelling and can’t find time? And so on, just let it be when you’re in a situation you cannot get out of it! Make fitness a priority, but do not get so much into it that you get deviated from more important things in life! Do not burnout your mind and body so much, respect it’s limits.

There was also a time when I would try not to go out because outside food would be so oily/unhealthy/greasy etc. When you see your social side getting screwed up– you need to start working on yourself (Read my article on how to eat healthy when you are out here).

I hope you understand the balance. I also hope that you can now prevent yourself from this. Best of luck!
